As part of the multiplier and dissemination activities of our European Union project numbered 2019-1-TR01-KA203-074191, 3 December International Day of Persons with Disabilities Awareness Raising Program was organized. Gaziantep Deputy Governor Mutlu Almalı, Deputy Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Mehmet Berk, Head of Department of Health Services and Disabled Dr. Serdar Tolay, Family and Social Policies Provincial Director Mustafa Yıldırım, Gaziantep University Faculty of Law and Faculty of Medicine students and project coordinators, Hasan Kalyoncu University Special Education Department, Special Education, Application and Research Center Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Latife Özaydın and her students, disabled individuals and municipal staff attended.
The theme was “Supporting individuals with special needs in the shadow of the Covid-19 Pandemic in terms of their education, continuity and accessibility of the services provided” and the special employees of Another Gluten-Free Cafe accompanied the National Anthem with sign language, Oğuzeli Disabled Life Center Janissary Team put on a special show. In the program, visually disabled Bayram Şifkan played the organ and gave a concert. At the end of the program, the message was given that the obstacles would be overcome together by creating awareness, providing equality of opportunity in education, health and working life.
Prof. Dr. Emin KOBAN: With the main aim of ” Noticing the Barriers without Barriers”, in our Erasmus+ program KA203 Higher Education strategic partnership project, Prof. Dr. Can Demirel and I have been working enthusiastically as an executive for a long time. We were with them in this beautiful organization of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and Barrier-Free Life Center at the World Disability Day Awareness Event on 03 December. We were very happy with the sensitivity and awareness of our students in this event that we participated in with our students. Our awareness color is purple. As we flew our purple balloons into the sky, the hearts of each of us beat with love. We say, “If there is love, there are no barriers”. The value added to us today is very valuable. In this journey of value, we tried to raise the message “No Barriers between Us, We Are Strong Together” within the scope of our Erasmus+ program KA203 Higher Education strategic partnership project with the main aim of “Noticing the Barriers Without Barriers”, which we conducted together with Prof. Dr. Can Demirel and our dear students. The most beautiful journey of the day was the awareness journey of our students in the city by bus.
